Sorry, folks… sometimes here at Technology Kills, we just don’t really understand the “technology” part of the web. During an innocent, no-downtime migration of DNS providers to CloudFlare, one of our SSL certificated happened to take a lot longer than the others to validate, and it caused a chain of issues which brought down our website since sometime around 10:30 last night with an SSL error.

The certificate still hasn’t validated, but we kicked ourselves after realizing how simple it was to almost instantly get back up in the meantime. Crisis averted, although we regret any inconvenience caused to attempted visitors during those ~14 hours.

Apart from the promise that we’ll do better in the future, we can also report that this has caused us to start the process of implementing some additional redundancies and monitoring to our websites and backend services.
